CapSUnianas of Main Campus showcased their literary skills during the literary competition of the Culture and the Arts Festival 2023, held at the Conference Hall on Wednesday, November 29.
The said competition was composed of five categories, which include essay writing, pagsulat ng sanaysay, extemporaneous speech, dagliang talumpati, and spoken poetry, with a theme of “Strengthening CapSU’s Unity and Excellence Through Culture and Sports".
“There have been moments of self-doubt, especially when feeling unprepared and questioning my eligibility in a contest where I believe I'm old enough, and the fear that there are younger, potentially more capable students. Despite these doubts, I poured my emotions into my essay. Winning first place in the essay writing competition serves as a testament to my hard work, proving that age is not a barrier to success and a win for those who feel that they’re left behind; regardless of age, you are capable of anything,” expressed Ram Neil John Montina of CEAT, one of the winners.
Montina attained first place in the essay writing contest, followed by Romel John Oquendo from BIT, and Zhagne Emerald Sarabia from CM; meanwhile, for the Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, Mary Queen Tortogo of CoEd clinched first place, followed by Rheyna Kate Generosa of CEAT, and Saira Joy Bautista of CM.
"Win or lose, you're still number one for me." Iyan ang mga naging salita ng aking coach na si Ma'am Apuhin bago ako sumalang sa paligsahan sa Pagsulat ng Sanaysay. Ang matanghal na kampyeon sa isang paligsahan ay isang magandang pagkakataon na mahasa lalo ang aking kaalaman sa pagsulat. Hindi ko inakalang manalo sapagkat ang layunin ko lamang noong una ay ang magkaroon ng karanasan bilang first year college student sa ganitong uri ng patimpalak,” Tortogo conveyed.
Moreover, Ma. Sofia Shaira Datiles of CEAT won the judges’ highest rating in the extemporaneous category upon answering the question, “Does learning a language make you a less nationalistic Filipino?" Marchelle T. Cabe of CoEd, on the other hand, obtained the 2nd place, while John David Tariao of BIT got third place.
Gian Paulo Matillano from CoEd was heralded as the champion for the Dagliang Talumpati category after answering the question, “Ano ang iyong pananaw sa paggamit ng AI sa sistema ng Edukasyon?", and was followed by Renzo Dela Cruz of CEAT and Jean Rose Esteban of CM.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa patuloy na tiwala at suporta ng Kolehiyo ng Edukasyon para maging kinatawan sa Dagliang Talumpati. At sa dalawang magkasunod na taon, hindi natin binigo ang CoEd dahil sa muling pagkakasungkit natin ng kampeonato. Ito ay dahil sa hindi matatawarang paghubog at pagpanday ng ating sangkaguruan. Iniaalay natin ang karangalang ito sa buong Kolehiyo ng Edukasyon at nasasabik akong ikatawan muli ang buong CapSU-Main Campus sa darating na Inter-Campus na patimpalak. Muli, buo ang aking pasasalamat sa lahat—lahat na naging katuwang at bahagi sa pagkamit ng tagumpay na ito,” Matillano stated.
With his winning piece, “Sports and Culture," Reymark Padernillo of the CoEd Department nailed first place in the spoken poetry category, followed by Jericho Abucay of BIT and Glydel B. Sanding of CEAT.
“Kung para sayo para talaga sayo. Kakatapos lang ng kaganapan sa PACSA nakungsaan ay nakuha ko rin ang kampyeonato, alam ko sa sarili ko na kaunti nalang yung oras ko para sa pag eensayo, pero nandigan ako na kailangan kong depensahan yung aking titulo, mas napatibay ito ng mga taong naniwala sa akin. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos at sa Buong Kolehiyo ng Edukasyon,” said Padernilla.
The competition ended with CoEd having the most number of champions.
This creative activity was participated by students coming from the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEAT), College of Management (CM), College of Education (CoEd), Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) Department, and the Laboratory High School (LHS) Department.
