Ditchusa triumphs Realism Painting Competition

Showcasing the rich history of Panay through his artistic prowess, Elmer Ditchusa, Senior Artist of The Quest Publication, prevailed as Champion during the "Historic Panay: A Realism Painting Competition" in celebration of Lingga-anay 2023 at the Municipality of Panay, Capiz, on Sunday, May 3.


The said event was annually celebrated to showcase the municipality’s rich history and culture, which provides the platform to exhibit the talents of Pan-ayanon and pay homage to the Biggest Bell in Asia, which is locally called "Dako nga Lingganay". 


“Winning as a champion in this prestigious local competition is one of the important leaps for my career as an artist. I felt overwhelmed by my painting entry, along with other artists who have great credentials both locally and on the national level. All glory to God,” Ditchusa expressed.


Moreover, Ditchusa’s art piece entitled “The Casting of Panay Big Bell and Belfry Construction” was painted in a 24”x30”, Acrylic on Canvas using the Chiaroscuro technique, and his artwork was turned over as a property of the municipality of Panay LGU.


The abovementioned winning art piece showcased the famous huge bell of Panay which people of the town usually call “Dako nga Lingganay” which was cast in the 19th century from 70 sacks of gold and silver coins and measures seven feet in diameter, five feet in height, and weighs 10, 400 kilograms.


The 23-year-old artist is a 5th-year BS Architecture student at Capiz State University (CapSU) Main Campus and is also a member of DIBUJISTAs De Panay, an avenue that aims to scout Pan-ayanon art experts and foster the growth of skills and imaginations among them and Guhit Pinas Capiz.


Ditchusa is also an awardee of the various art competitions in Provincial Tourism Office Youth Arm ABYAN (Advocates in Building a community of Youth Animators with Noble Ideals) Committee on Arts 2021-2022, Exhibitor Pinta Capiz 10 (2021), Exhibitor Pinta Capiz 11 (2022), Exhibitor Pinta Capiz 10 (2023) and won as the champion of Borres Youth Leadership Institute (BYLI) Poster Making Competition 2020, and 1st runner up, Live Portrait Sketching during the Intramural Meet CapSU-Main Campus.
