The Gender and Development office of Capiz State University – Main Campus organized its first face-to-face symposium for the academic year 2022-2023 with gender sensitivity and RA 11313 (Safe Spaces Act) as the highlight of the discussion at Dadivas Gym on 10th of October.

Campus Administrator Dr. Ma. Dorothee J. Villarruz formally started the program by giving an opening remarks to the students and faculties of the university.

“The concept of gender sensitivity has been developed as a way to reduce martyrs, personal, and development created by sexism,” stated by the campus administrator in her opening speech. The symposium was divided into two parts discussing about gender sensitivity with Ms. Anna Marie Albaladejo as the guest speaker for the morning schedule and Atty. Benji. P. Doce as the resource speaker for the afternoon discourse.

“Gender roles are not in born, in fact, they are learned and evolve over time,” Albaladejo made it clear to the audience. Information about safety in public places and discussion about law in regards with the subject matter was the priority of Atty. Doce in his lecture.

“Diri sa Pilipinas, bawal ang bastos. Dapat, well-mannered lang (Here in the Philippines, impertinence is not allowed. Instead, we should be well-mannered)," said Doce as an introduction to the “Bawal Bastos Law.”

Both students and faculties are given the time to express their thoughts and question in an open forum after the discussion.
