To scout and train new staffers, The Quest Publication conducted the 2023 Training and Screening in Campus Journalism on Thursday, March 23, 2023, held at the Capiz State University - Main Campus' Conference Hall.
Orchestrated by the staffers of the publication led by one of the Editors-in-Chief, Joanna Grace de Guzman, the event was attended by 27 students from different departments of CAPSU.
In her opening message, Ms. de Guzman stressed-out, "You don't have to be the best in writing, you just need to have the will to write."
The activity was comprised of 4 workshops in various journalism categories; Page Lay-out discussed by Mr. Peter Jay Corros, Editorial Writing tackled by Mr. Nhomer Jhon Camacho, Mr. Michael Vaugn Cadiz talked about Feature Writing, and News Writing elaborated by Mr. Darwin Borreros.
After the training and seminar, 11 students who clinched the Most Promising Award in various categories during the workshop were accepted as part of the new staff of The Quest Publication after the closing remarks of one of the Editors-in-Chief of the stated publication, Mariel Claire R. Payas.
During the awarding of the event, Justine Argoncillo and Mark Globen Barotilla clinched the award for Most Promising in Page Layout, Briann Howell Bellosillo won Most Promising in News Writing - English, while Jonna Rabino won in the Filipino category of Most Promising in News writing.
The Most Promising in Feature Writing - English was awarded to Frankie Rose Mondala, Ram Neil John Montina, and Merelle Nicole Olasco, while the Filipino category was won by Aira Nicole Delostrico and Angela Lozada. Additionally, the Most Promising in Editorial Writing - English was awarded to Irish Ann Consolacion and the Filipino category were clinched by Delostrico and Jessy Chris Santos.
When asked about how he felt after the screening, Jessy Chris Andrade, the Most Promising in Editorial Writing - Filipino, shared, "The moment my name was called as one of the official Editorial writers, I felt so ecstatic and proud of myself. I said to myself "This is it!" This is what I've always dreamed and I'll do my best to show my commitment toward this organization."
"The welcoming hands of adviser and staffs were priceless. The feeling was ecstatic and I am already looking forward to working with you all. And I thank the Lord for this wonderful blessing He had given," said Merelle Nicole Olasco, one of the winners in Feature Writing, in her appreciation post on Facebook after being accepted in the publication.
