Capiz State University (CapSU) – Main Campus in observance to the 19th National Dental Health Month hosted a Dental Health Awareness Seminar at the Dadivas Gym, February 24.
The program is adherence to the Proclamation No. 559, s. 2004, declaring the month of February of every year as National Dental Health Month, with its major objective to foment dental health consciousness among people.
Dr. Noella Maria Rhiza Ajera-Potato, Professor and Clinical Instructor at the University of Perpetual Help System – Roxas City, College of Dentistry, and Dr. Jorge B. Lamier, member of the Dental Health Team of the Capiz Provincial Health Office and is currently assigned in the Rural Health Unit of Dumalag, were the resource speakers.
“Severe cases of COVID-19 have been linked to poor dental health. Neglecting proper dental hygiene habits increases the risk of biofilm forming inside the throat and mouth leading to oral diseases and promote various health complications”, Dr. Potato explained as she focused her talk on Good Oral Health: Potentially Life-Saving during pandemic.
Thenceforth, Dr. Lamier talked about the Illegal Practice of Dentistry in the Philippines, and elaborated and discussed legal provisions with regards to it, RA No. 417 known as the Dental Law Act of 1949 and RA No. 4419 known as the Philippine Dental Act of 1965, to name a few.
“To check and ensure that your dentist is legitimate, he/she must have passed the Dentist Licensure Examination given by the PRC; he/she must have a PRC License Card; and he/she must display to his/her office the certificate issued by the PRC after passing the board exam”, he added.
The aforesaid event was made possible by the university’s Medical, Dental, and Disability Service together with the Supreme Student Council (SSC) – Main Campus, and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) in accordance to this year’s theme: Ngiting Protektado, Ngiting Panalo.
