Among 170 SUCs in the country, Capiz State University - Main Campus won 3rd place in the National Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance for Higher Education Institution Category last December 11, 2017.
Last September 2017, the University had undergone the national evaluation for the 19th Gawad Kalasag Award and won 3rd place in the national evaluation which granted the institution a cash price of P50,000.00. Gawad Kalasag is a prestigious award giving body who recognizes SUCs both private and public who extended great efforts in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance.
CapSU-Main DRRM was also recognized as the top performing school in DRRM and Humanitarian Assistance in Western Visayas for two consecutive years.
“Proud kita nga taga CapSU kay imagine kay ang DRRM bag-o ini nga concept sa academe. Nagstart lang kita ya sang 2010-2011,” said Mr. Arnel Van Aleligay, the campus NRRM Chairman.
According to Mr. Aleligay, the Commission on Higher Education
asked for the best practices of the university in DRRM to serve as a model to the schools in the country. The Local Government Units in Capiz also invite the CapSU DRRM to be their resource person in disaster risk reduction management.
The University is planning to purchase an ambulance and a fire truck since the CapSU DRRM have allocated budget for its projects and equipment.
CapSU DRRM office is in close partnership with the National Service and Training Program. The DRRM is in-charge with the strategic planning while the NSTP with Dr. Elmer Albaladejo, is in charge in executing the plan. Both offices are partners in the implementation of trainings, drills, and other activities.
On July 2, the Gawad Kalasag National Validators will visit the University for validation of the reports submitted to them by the school for its second entry in the National Level and on July 27 will be the Regional Awarding of CapSU as Top 1 in the region for the second time.
