To enhance global academic collaboration, Capiz State University (CapSU), in partnership with Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, hosted its first International Symposium with the theme “Sharing of Best Research Practices and Teaching Pedagogies” on January 30 at the CapSU Auditorium.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, CapSU’s newly appointed Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages, in which she emphasized the importance of academic collaboration and knowledge-sharing. The symposium was attended by students and faculty from various campuses.

During the symposium, Mr. Agustinus Hary Setyawan, a faculty member of Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, presented his research on "Javanese Cultural Influence on English Conversation Politeness." His study examined how Indonesian pedicab drivers use culturally influenced politeness strategies when conversing in English with tourists.

In addition, he shared insights into innovative teaching methods in English language research. Following his presentation, students and faculty actively participated in discussions, asking questions and sharing their perspectives on the topic.

This symposium is part of CapSU’s initiative to expand international academic collaborations and strengthen its global academic network. It also supports the SEA-Teacher Program, which provides students with opportunities for cross-cultural learning and cooperation.
