Showcasing excellence in the field of innovation, the 2nd place for Likha (Outstanding Government-Funded Creative Research) was awarded to Capiz State University during the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) 2024 in Manila, Philippines on July 18, Thursday.
With their project "A Device for Extracting Coarse and Fine Fibers from Pineapple Leave," the team composed of Engr. Efren L. Lina, CapSU Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, Engr. Monalyn Oloroso, and Engr. Julito Albaladejo, competed against 25 inventions from the country.
NICE 2024 is an effort by the Department of Science and Technology - Technology Application and Promotion Institute to recognize the best and the brightest Filipino inventions, innovations, and research in the country.
The Likha won by CapSU is one of the awards given together with Outstanding Invention Category (Tuklas), Outstanding Utility Model (Unlad), Outstanding Industrial Design Category (Banghay), Creative Research Category (Likha) Private Funded Category, Student Creative Research Category (Sibol) for High School and College.
Notably, the CapSU team bagged first place during the Visayas Cluster Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits 2023 held last October at Cebu before proceeding to the national field.
The NICE 204 by DOST-TAPI was held on July 16 - 18 at Marriot Hotel where teams that won from the five identified clusters in the country by the institution showcased their innovations.
