In pursuit of aspiring journalistic talents, The Quest Publication, the official student publication of Capiz State University (CapSU)-Main campus conducted a Training and Screening on Campus Journalism at the university's auditorium on May 20, 2024.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Rodgen Diaz, one of the Editors-in-Chief. This was followed by a lecture by Mr. Nhomer John Camacho, a faculty member of the High Echool Department at Hercor College and a former The Quest Editor-in-Chief, in which he highlighted crucial tips for writing effective sports news.
Continuing the morning session, Mr. Anthony Dayalo, a faculty member of Tanque National High School and former senior artist of the publication, emphasized the importance of cartooning in journalism.
The afternoon session was led by Mr. Peter Jay Corros, a faculty member of Loctugan Elementary School and a former photojournalist for the publication, wherein he shared his expertise on copyreading and headline writing.
At the end of the sessions, the workshops took place to test the abilities of the aspirants.
Three students clinched the Most Promising awards. Jumel Quintro was recognized as the Most Promising in Sports News Writing, while Renel Develos of the Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) and Gennil Marielle Aponte from the College of Education (CoEd) were hailed as the Most Promising Cartoonists.
"If you’re willing to put in the effort, sacrifice, and commitment in pursuit of campus journalism, then you’re meant to be here," stated Aldreanna Sereneo, one of the Editors-in-Chief, in her closing remarks.
The training and screening event was attended by publication’s staffs and aspiring students journalists coming from the different departments.
